Skidattle to Seattle

I have been pondering the many lifestyle changes a child will bring. Many friends have offered varying candid advice about this very thing, and while everyone seems to have their own little "thing" that rocked their world when kids arived on the scene, every single person mentions how easy traveling was pre-kiddos.

For this reason, we have decided to "babymoon" in Seattle in July. We wanted to go somewhere besides our usual SoCal getaway and somewhere that was relatively close since we only have 4 days to jam this thing in.

I have only been to the rainy city for a quick day trip, but I have heard mostly great things all around. I am soliciting you all for any suggestions on cool things to do/places to see & eat. Let's be honest, I'm mostly concerned about the latter since I will be pleasantly plump with child by this time.

Jessica, please do not suggest driving to Forks to see where Bella and Edward met.

I could give you TONS of ideas! Jay's parents live there and we will be there this July too! July/August is by far the best time to go. For sure go to EMP (Experience Music Project), the downtown pike place market - great music, shops, food - you can even go have clam chowder where Tom Hanks did in Sleepless in Seattle and see his house :) A Mariner's game is always fun, and the fish and chips at the game is delish. Going to any of the San Juan islands, the locks - just interesting I guess, watching the salmon jump...I could go on and on. Obviously you can email me if you need more ideas! Have fun! And I'm so jealous you're going there w/o kids and I'll be traveling with my two wild girls on the 3 hour flight! Blah! It really is a small nightmare to travel with kids - but worth it all :)

I second going to the San Juan Islands...you can take ferry boats....I went to Salt Spring and Orca (?) when my parents were in Vancouver...loved them.

When do you find out if your little one is a boy or a girl?

Wonderful suggestions! I will definitely email you, Katie and get the scoop.

Carolyn - We don't find out until June-ish. We have a 16 week ultrasound on May 21st and there is a slim chance we might find out then if the little peanut is not being shy.

Go to a Sounders game (soccer). The games are packed and a great, fun atmosphere.

What a fun city, you will have fun, I made my treck there with kids so any suggestions I have might be what you are trying to avoid pre-baby! Enjoy your last vacay by yourselvs, once you have kids vacation just means double the work of staying home! Unless you find someone to ditch them with!

Hey Suz. We just spent 8 days up there visiting Aja in Sequim and Sloan's sister in Bellevue. If you have time, I highly recommend taking the ferry to go see Aja in Sequim. It will change your life!!

In Seattle, we went to Pike's Place Market (a must), the Aquarium (they have an amazing octopus there, but otherwise pretty expensive), The Underground Tour (so interesting!! but maybe best to just go to their basement gift shop and see the old photos & check out the history of Seattle), Aja loves the downtown library but we didn't go, and feeding the Seagulls at Ivar's on the wharf is fun but not the best fish & chips in the world imo!
Does that help? Congrats on pregnancy!! Happy for you :)

First off...I'm highly offended. Second...seriously, you should go check out Forks! Why do you love me?

Please do Pike's Market!! I've never done it, but come on!!! What's better than HUGE dead fish when you're pregnant???
